fcps-part-1-experience-dr-khizra-malik
Hello everyone, I’m Dr. Khizra, and I’m writing this detailed review of my FCPS Part 1 experience to guide my colleagues and fellows who are preparing for the exam.
First and foremost, I’m deeply grateful to Allah and my mentors for their support and guidance. It’s solely due to their help, my honest hard work, and consistent efforts that I was able to pass FCPS Part 1 on my first attempt.
Many colleagues and fellows have asked me similar questions, so here’s a detailed post to hopefully answer them all.
The most frequently asked question is about my study plan.
So, I followed Dr Khubaib’s Group religiously!
They post weekly schedule in group and break the big tasks into bite size weekly doable tasks.
Along with that I followed video lectures whenever I felt confused on a topic or short 5-10 minute youtube videos, they’re very helpful for clearing basics. For me there was a good 5 years gap (I graduated in 2018) so a good understanding of basics was needed as fcps exam is almost completely of basic subjects.
Along with this I added a few resources/books (listed below)
Second question is how many hours and months did I study?
So I studied for 4 months with 100% focus, no clinics, no outings, no social media, nothing, one and only focus, STUDY. I feel like it’s very important set your goal and focus on one thing to achieve it. I studied almost 10-12 hours during the first 3 months and increased it to 12-16 hours in the final month.
Third question is what books and study material did I follow?
So here is a breakdown of all books/resources I followed.
THEORY PORTION
BRS physiology + Video Lectures ✅
Snell Anatomy Head and Neck portion, Thorax, Upper Arm (Brachial Plexus) , Back and General Anatomy (short snell + NBDE + Naseem Shehzad + Video Lectures + own notes) ✅
Kaplan neuroanatomy ( first 6 chapters with own notes , video lectures, and selective topics from naseem shehzad ) ✅
BRS pathology (selective chapters only) ✅
USMLE first aid ( Microbiology and Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Blood, General Patho, Neoplasia ) (also selective topics from Naseem Shehzad) ✅
Own Notes for Anatomy, Neuro, Embryo ✅✅️

Osmosis videos are also good, helped me understand Thorax anatomy and Hematology. https://www.youtube.com/@osmosis

And this one for motivation and manifestation, It helped me on days when I felt low and unmotivated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tphCF_-ZUIs

Everyone has their own method of studying, for me visuals and video lectures along with book work so I did that. You can make your own study plan and see what works for you.

BCQ Portion
Rabia Ali ✅✅️
Rafiullah ✅✅ (two ticks means two revisions)
Esha notes ✅✅️
Vijay partab DM ✅ ✅️
Asim and Shoaib dentistry ✅ (I would not recommend wasting too much time on this book , it is recommended by many seniors and I also studied it once, I think one read of this book is enough, as not much questions from this book in exam)
Coffedent subscription (must) ✅️
JK pool of mcqs book. ✅️

And this last question, what was my routine?
Ab jis bande ne 12 hour prhna ho uski kia ee routine honi, bas utho , study aur sojao. 😅
I used to do theory in the morning jo b group me tasks milty thy, us topic ko achhhhyyy se read krna, srf read e nh blky achy se smjhna, youtube se, google se referances dhoondh dhondh k, khudko is laiq banana k us topic ki mcqs discussion me participate krsako. Then sham me usi topic k mcqs krna Dr KK k group me (there are daily mcqs discussions of the same theory topic which you cover in the morning) aur kisi mcq me confusion ho to wo clear krna group pe. This was for starting 3 months.
In the last month I focused mostly on Rafi, Rabia Ali , Esha (Dentistry section only) and Coffeedent. To pass your exam these 4 books should be on your fingertips.

In the end,
For motivation, support, and guidance every day, Dr. Khubaib ‘s group. Everyone should join Dr. Khubaib’s group if you want to pass the FCPS exam with ease. The mentors are incredibly helpful and amazinnng and they guide you through every step. They provide motivation, support, and guidance. Alhamdulillah, I passed my exam on the first attempt thanks to this group. Before joining, I didn’t think I could clear this tough exam. I’m grateful to Allah Almighty and the dedicated mentors who work tirelessly and sincerely to help you succeed.
