How to Prepare for and Pass the MOrth RCS Clinical Exam on Your First Attempt
The Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) exam evaluates a candidate’s skills and knowledge in the field of Orthodontics. MOrth RCS exam is conducted in English in different parts of the world by the Royal Colleges of the UK (RCSEd, RCS England, and RCPSG).
For the MOrth RCS Part B clinical exam, since in all diet candidates are more and seats are limited, it is very difficult to take the exam as soon as you pass the MOrth RCS Part A written exam. Normally, it takes a 2-4 year waiting period to book a seat for the MOrth Part B clinical exam. You can read Clinical Cases in Orthodontics in a manner that you are appearing in the exam, i.e., set your table clock timer, read the scenarios, make your plan, and think about your mechanics, and when the timer rings the bell, compare your plan and mechanics with the book, how the authors have planned and executed it. Reading the Clinical Cases book in this manner will help you prepare for the exam, as the exam is conducted in a similar pattern.
Another Tip:
You can memorize the latest evidence to support your answers during the oral examination to secure good marks. Don’t forget to memorize all the recent Cochrane reviews.
What is the exam format and cost?
MOrth Part B in RCS Edinburgh is a clinical examination with 8 thirty-minute stations, which 4 diagnostic cases and 4 mechanics cases.
For International candidate’s exam fee is around £2265.
Do I really need any MOrth Preparatory course?
If you have sound knowledge of Orthodontics and good evidence-based clinical experience, no preparatory course is recommended other than practicing the real past clinical exam scenarios, which you can find here. These past exam scenarios, supported by a good revision of the recommended book, are more than enough.
However, if you are still not feeling confident or your clinical training is not up to UK standards. We recommend that you take a course. The benefit of the course being it helps to minimize your failure risk and thus the overall investment in the exam.
